Dongwon Park (MS program, 2nd year) and Kwanyoung Kim (Undergraduate, senior year) of BMIPL (Bio-Medical Image Processing Lab.), UNIST, participated in the NTIRE 18 challenge (http://www.vision.ee.ethz.ch/ntire18/) of CVPR (Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, one of the top conferences in computer vision) under the supervision of Prof. Se Young Chun and won the 3rd place in Single Image Super Resolution Tracks 2,3, &4 : Realistic. They also won honorable mention award for Single Image Super Resolution Track 1 : Classic Bicubic. Their proposed EMBSR (Efficient Module Based Super Resolution) achieved the 9th place in Track 1 and the 2nd places in both Tracks 2 and 3. This work was presented at the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement Workshop of CVPR 18 as an oral presentation as well as as a poster. Novel parameter selection methods for self-weights in the NLM filter have been investigated using Baranchik’s minimax estimation theorem and the results will be published in IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (IF: 3.735). This work was done by former Master student Minh Phuong Nguyen (now with TU Delft) and Prof. Se Young Chun.
